Updated: Jan 14

Leila Hyde from Southampton, who has been dancing since a small child opened her dance business, FUNkSTREET a year ago and has not looked back.

Having fun is key. When you are dancing all your troubles disappear, even just for a few minutes. It really does not matter if you have never danced before. My classes are about enjoying yourself and learning a new skill whilst also building your fitness.”

So far, her business has grown with her teaching regular street dance classes to both children and adults plus teaching dance at children’s/teens birthday parties which is always loads of fun. She also teaches future brides and grooms their chosen first wedding dance which can be anything from a slow waltz to a funky street dance routine.

Founder of FUNkSTREET Leila Hyde

“I am truly passionate about dancing. It’s so rewarding when a student (young or old) masters a dance routine. Their face lights up and you can see their confidence grow. I believe everyone can dance; it does not have to be perfect just as long as you are enjoying yourself. It’s about stepping away from the daily pressures of life and stepping into a place where you can laugh, smile and have fun being you!

When I decided to start my business, I attended a business course run by Radian Create. They help you turn your idea into a reality, giving you support and advice, which I really needed at the time.”

Leila plans to grow the business with more regular classes dotted around Southampton accessible to people of all ages. Leila has a BA (Hons) in Dance and Culture and has been teaching for over 10 years, in a variety of styles but her personal favorite is street dance.
